Meet the Artist

Hi! I am Marcie Dierks, the designer and creator behind Midwest Prairie Collective. Weaving is my passion project. It calms my mind during the long winter months in Eastern South Dakota. Creating beautiful, one of a kind art is where I find peace away from my high-stress, fulltime career in education.

I began my weaving journey by taking a quick weaving course at the Brookings Art Council and furthered my skills through trial and error, discovery, and self-teaching.

Each piece is hand crafted on a loom and designed by me in my 1940s lake side home. Most of the fiber I use is ethically sourced cotton and wool. In addition, I use synthetic fibers purchased from a local craft store.

Some weavings are hung from driftwood collected from the shores of Big Stone Lake, while other weavings are hung from wooden dowels.
